I build cigar-box instruments, and resonator guitars are a popular build item over at the Cigar Box Nation site. We use everything from commercial cone-and-cover sets made for mandolin and uke to home-made items improvised from nearly anything you can think of. Paint-can lids, license plates...In my case, the lid from a girl-scout cooking set.

I was planning to make my cheap reso body sound better with a new bridge. I've got a shotty Dean resonator and it's got a biscuit bridge already. To put in a spider bridge I imagine I need a new cone, no? The body hole is 9.5" wide, so how can I tell which bridge to get? I am now using open A tuning (E C# A E A E for those who are not familiar) with the stock strings on my tricone.

It really makes it sing well. I do not know what the gauge the stock strings are, but I think they are fairly thin.

I bought a set of d'addario 'resonator' strings, and they are IDENTICAL to the D'addario acoustic 13 sets, except the 13 is now a 16. (16-56 gauge).

I have tried several varieties (though by no means all) including glass, ceramic and metal. It turns out that I like a 1/2 inch wrench socket better than anything else I've tried.
