I've recently decided to start learning bottleneck blues slide guitar on a "SX" brand resonator. I'm pretty happy with the guitar as a beginner instrument, but I have a specific question about choosing a slide.
I have tried several varieties (though by no means all) including glass, ceramic and metal. It turns out that I like a 1/2 inch wrench socket better than anything else I've tried. It fits comfortably on the end of my pinky and makes sliding on the 2nd-6th strings very easy. It's also just long enough to cover 3 strings for a partial barre.
However, I notice that most slides are much longer than my lowly wrench socket. I know that slide choice is a personal matter, but I would like to know if this particular slide will limit me in any important ways. What are the pros/cons of a short fingertip slide vs. a longer finger-length slide of the same material? Are there any slides out there that sit on your fingertip like a wrench socket and give you that dexterity with better tone or other advantages?
Thanks,
Aaron
