I am venturing into the world of slide and am in the market for a resonator . I will not be playing lap style . I don't have the chops to walk into a shop and sit down and try them all to know what I like and don't like . I 'm not looking for a starter model so other than the obvious of personal taste for tonal differences ; which for me with acoustics is roeswood back & sides , cedar top . I am presently playing a Larrive LV-09E soon to be repalced by a Paragon Grand OM . What would be your advice on choices . I am also looking for a good instructional DVD of technique and open tuning info more than songs to learn . All responses welcome . Thanks in advance. Bryan

Resonators Explained This article talks about all the different types and provides some sounds samples along with links to a variety of choices. If you haven't read this yet, this is where you should start. It would save me a whole lot of typing. As for DVD recommendation, I would strongly recommend Mike Dowling's Bottleneck Blues and Beyond.

I guess I should have surfed around the site before asking my question . I feel a little more sure of what I think will work for me now after reading your article unfortunately I can hear some of all the things that go in my head in every guitar so making a clear cut first choice will be hard . I do like the Tri-Cone Baritone , but it might be too close to the bass tones of my new Grand OM so to be different I will probably go to a brighter sound . The Grand OM is a 13 fret with no cutaway , and my Larrive is a 14 fret cutaway . I rarely play that high on my Larrive , but would consider a cutaway on a resonator . I guess , armed with the info from your article , I will hit a shop that has a resonator player on staff and ask them to take the guitars for a workout so I can make an educated choice . I'll keep you posted . Bryan
