fingerstyle guitar model recommendations? |
Lead | |
|
Hey, everyone. I am trying to find a good guitar for fingerstyle playing... and one that won't break the bank for me! The guitar I am using (for everything
- not just fingerstyle) is a Guild GAD-50 dreadnought. It works fine, I guess... but I am wondering if there is/are some models out there that any of you can
attest to as being excellent for fingerstyle playing. Thanks a lot!

Don't everyone reply all at once! LOL!
I think I'm getting a Guild GAD-30. It will make a nice companion to my GAD-50. |

That should work fine. Let us know how you like it.

Will do! I bought the mahogany back and side model as I read a lot of arguments on another forum in support of mahogany having a warmer sound than the
rosewood... and that's what I want - a warmer tone for my finger playing.

I recently saved up for a Lakewood M32 custom, handmade in germany but very good value. It took me 6 months to get the money but worth every penny. It was one
of the few places i found that would make a guitar with the wide neck(48mm) and string spacing (40mm at nut) that i prefer for fingerstyle. Orchestra Model
shape. European Spruce top, Indian Rosewood B&Sides. Exceptional tone, and so easy to play. It sounds better than any other guitar i've come across.
Really pleased with it, can't recommend Lakewood enough.

GADs ? Please ! | ||

Don't get the Guild Gads. They are all chinese made and sound like a cheap Blueridge (also chinese
made) and they will hurt your fingers quick (typical of cheaply made guitars). For the same amount of money you can get a vintage 70's Guild on Ebay. F20 or F30 or F47 or F50. They may not be pretty but their sounds are of recording caliber. Good Luck . Doug. |

I've got a Guild gad 30 and my fingers are doing just fine thank you. I recently played a gad30 pce which I was really impressed with. Take a look around
for one, you might really like the sound.

I have played a few Guilds at my local music store, and liked them. But they are built like tanks - really thick tops, and HEAVY. I don't know why they
sound as good as they do -but they do.

I guess it depends on what "breaking the bank" would mean...but, for a price that I don't find exorbitant, I find the Martin OM-28 Marquis a
wonderful fingerstyle guitar...yes, it's rosewood rather than mahogany, but sounds great right out of the box...

I have Larrivee Baritone that is a slope shoulder dread with a 12-fret neck. For the things I do with it, I can live the 12 fret limitation.
