Now, when I first went acoustic last year I bought a relatively cheap beginner model, which I thought sounded real good for the money. When the factory fitted d'Addario strings turned smelly I set out to replace them, and the guy at the store pointed at a set of DR phosphor-bronze. Now, I thought my guitar was a bargain earlier, but WHOA how it sounded with those DRs. Another level of brightness, clarity, loudness and warmth. They sing.
I've been buying the same set since, but haven't bothered to check out any other brands. From what I find on Google it turns out that the DR strings may very well actually be the best there is - at least among the best. Somewhat annoyingly, I might add, for my inner researcher.
The thing is, there's this web store that sells a number of brand name strings for half the price the physical stores do - but they don't carry DR.
So I was wondering if you guys had any experience with the following brands and if any of them come close to the DRs:
D'addario (haven't really checked out more than the pre-fitted set of these, but they are oh so standard and a lot cheaper, so I don't expect them to compete)
Darco
Martin
Dean Markley
If not, I'd also like to hear what your favorite brand is.
