1. Preparation is vital. All instruments should be in proper shape. Unless going for a "dead/funky" vibe, guitar strings, drum heads, etc., should be in place, seated correctly, and new-sounding. Musicians should know their respective parts while at the same time be flexible enough to change them if it becomes necessary.

2. Keep any and all non-essential people away from the session(s). Although an enjoyable process, recording is work. Relatives, friends, & significant others are to say the least, distracting. They can and do get in the way and slow things down.

I give all of potential/new studio clients this advice.
